Story Written with Erik Maahs

Following disparate characters thrown together in the wake of a sudden death, CORNER OF THE STATE focuses on the little moments that follow tragedy. Frederic Lecompte’s passing leads Taylor, her boyfriend of five moths, across Washington state to deliver the news to Toby, her reclusive aunt and only living relative. Along the way, Taylor’s journey becomes a full-blown road trip – of tourist attractions, truck stops, and small talk – that inevitably ends up at a mysterious box of Fred’s audio diaries. The skeleton key that unlocks Fred’s life, these tapes are a temptation for which Taylor might not be ready. CORNER OF THE STATE travels deep into the heart of Washington and through the psychology of mourning.
